Alright, let’s gab about this “greatest kicker in Rams history” thing. You know, kickers, they ain’t the flashy fellas. Not like them quarterbacks, always throwin’ the ball and gettin’ all the glory. But kickers, they important too, real important. They gotta make them points, specially when the game’s on the line, you know, when it’s all close and scary-like.

Now, this young fella, Joshua Karty. He’s new, real new. Just a young’un, born in 2002, can you believe it? He played for some fancy college team, Stanford somethin’-somethin’. Now he’s kickin’ for the Rams. Good leg on him, that’s for sure. But is he the greatest? Hold your horses, I say. Gotta prove yourself first, sonny.
They talk about Jim Everett, that quarterback, always throwin’ and throwin’. But he ain’t no kicker. And that Jalen Ramsey, good player, they say the best cornerback the Rams ever had. But again, not a kicker. See, it’s a different kinda job, this kickin’ business.
- You gotta be calm, like real calm.
- You gotta be steady, ain’t no room for shakin’.
- And you gotta be accurate, gotta get that ball between them posts, every single time.
Some folks say this Adam Vinatieri fella, he’s the best kicker ever, in the whole dang league. Maybe so, maybe so. But he didn’t play for the Rams much, so he don’t count for this here talk. We’re talkin’ Rams kickers, the ones who wore the blue and gold, the ones who made us cheer, or sometimes, made us groan a little, let’s be honest.
This here Rams team, they got history, you know? Been around a long, long time. Lots of players, lots of games, lots of kickers. Some good, some not so good. They had some kickers in the big moments, the ones that mattered. Those are the ones you remember. Like when it’s down to the wire, just a few seconds left, and it’s all on the kicker’s shoulders. That’s pressure, I tell ya. Real pressure.
They say they got these lists, you know, ranking the best Rams players ever. They put all sorts of fellas on there, quarterbacks, runners, them fellas that catch the ball. But the kickers, they sometimes get forgotten. But they shouldn’t be, no sir. They’re part of the team, just like everyone else. And sometimes, they’re the most important fellas on the field.
This Joshua Karty, he’s got a chance, a real good chance, to be one of the greats. He’s young, he’s got a strong leg, and he seems like a good fella. But he’s gotta prove himself. He’s gotta make them kicks, the easy ones and the hard ones. He’s gotta be there when the team needs him, gotta be steady and true.

They did some interview with him, somethin’ called “Rams Revealed,” they talked to him. Seems like a nice boy. But nice don’t win games, kickin’ does. They was talkin’ about the draft picks, and about Torry Holt not gettin’ no jacket, whatever that means. Anyways, they sidetracked. It’s all about the now, ain’t it? This season, this game, this kick. That’s what matters.
So, is he the greatest kicker in Rams history? Not yet, not yet. But he could be. He’s got the talent, he’s got the opportunity. Now he just gotta go out there and do it. Show us what he’s made of. Make them kicks, sonny. Make them kicks.
And if he does, well, then we can talk about him bein’ the greatest. But until then, he’s just a young fella with a big leg and a lot to prove. But I’m rootin’ for him, I am. I always root for the kickers. They don’t get no respect, they need all the help they can get.
Time will tell, like it always does. Time and them field goals. That’s the truth of it, plain and simple.
