Alright, let’s gab a bit about these American White NBA Players, you know, the fellas on the court who ain’t black. Folks keep talkin’ ’bout ’em, so I figured I’d chime in.

Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you, just a regular person watchin’ the games. But even I can see there ain’t as many white fellas playin’ as there used to be. Used to be, you’d see a good bunch of ’em runnin’ around, passin’ the ball, shootin’ hoops. Nowadays, it’s mostly the black fellas doin’ the playin’. Don’t get me wrong, them black fellas are mighty talented, no doubt about it. They jump high, run fast, and can sure put that ball in the basket.
But what about the white players? Where did they all go? Well, some folks say it’s ’cause the black fellas just got more athletic, you know, more gifted for the game. Maybe that’s true, I don’t rightly know. But I reckon there’s still some darn good white players out there, even if they ain’t as many.
- Take that Larry Bird fella, for instance. Folks called him the “Hick from French Lick,” ain’t that somethin’? But that hick could play! He was one of the best, white or black, they say. Folks still talkin’ ’bout him, years after he stopped playin’.
- And then there’s that fella, uh, what’s his name… the German fella, Dirk Nowitzki. He was tall as a beanpole, but he could shoot that ball like nobody’s business. He played for a long time, too, won a championship, I think.
Now, some folks sayin’ it’s all about money, you know. Sayin’ the black fellas, they come from tougher places, so they gotta work harder to make somethin’ of themselves. Basketball, that’s their way out, their way to a better life. Maybe the white fellas, they got other options, other ways to make a livin’. I don’t know if that’s true or not, just somethin’ I heard.
But one thing’s for sure, them white players still in the league, they gotta be somethin’ special. They gotta be tough, gotta be skilled, gotta be able to hold their own against them athletic black fellas. It ain’t easy, I reckon. But they keep fightin’, keep playin’, keep tryin’ to prove they belong.
And you know what? Some of ’em do pretty darn good. You got that Nikola Jokic fella, winnin’ championships and playin’ like a champ. And that Luka Doncic, he’s a whiz with the ball, can make it dance on the court. So, even though there ain’t as many white players as there used to be, they still makin’ their mark, still showin’ they got what it takes.
It’s like this, see. Basketball, it’s a game for everybody. Black, white, brown, it don’t matter. If you got the talent, if you got the drive, if you got the heart, you can play. And them white players, they got plenty of heart, I tell you. They ain’t givin’ up, they ain’t backin’ down, they keepin’ the dream alive.

So, next time you watch a game, take a look at them white fellas on the court. Don’t just focus on the superstars, don’t just look at the fellas who dunk all the time. Pay attention to them other guys, them white players, the ones who might not get as much attention, but are still out there, givin’ it their all. They’re part of the game too, and they deserve some respect. They’ve made significant contributions to the NBA, on and off the court, and helped teams win those championships. Heck, even in 2023, around 17.5 percent of the players were white, so they’re still around. From way back when to today, with fellas like Bill Bradley, Bill Walton, Jerry West, John Stockton, and Rick Barry, white fellas been part of this game.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Just an old lady’s opinion, you know. Take it or leave it, it don’t matter none to me. But I like seein’ them white fellas playin’, and I hope they keep playin’ for a long, long time.
