Alright, so the other day I was digging into some old NFL stuff, specifically the 1988 Houston Oilers roster. I’ve always been a bit of a football history nerd, and the Oilers, well, they’ve got a special place in my heart.

First off, I started by hitting up some of the usual spots on the web where you can find these kinds of stats. I mean, who doesn’t love a good trip down memory lane with old team rosters, right?
I started by jotting down some notes. You know, the basics. The Oilers had a pretty decent season in ’88, going 10-6-0. Not too shabby. They ended up 3rd in the AFC Central and 4th in the AFC. It was cool to see they scored a total of 424 points that season.
Then I went deeper. I started pulling up the actual player list. I found this one site that had a pretty comprehensive breakdown. It was awesome to see all those names, like:
- #29 Patrick Allen, he was a defensive back, played in all 15 games, the guy was born in 1961!
- #97 Robert Banks, a defensive end. Played in all 14 games, and he was born in 1963.
- #25 Keith Bostic, Played in all 16 games, another defensive back. He was born in 1961!
- #24 Steve Brown, a cornerback, played in all 14 games.
Man, seeing those names brought back some memories. It was a good mix of rookies and seasoned players.
I also found out they lost to the Buffalo Bills, 17 to 10, in the playoffs. Tough break, but it happens. Still, it was interesting to read about that game and how it all went down.
I spent a good chunk of time just browsing through the roster, reading up on individual players, and getting a feel for the team dynamics. It’s always fascinating to see how a team comes together, the different personalities, and how they performed as a unit.

At the end of it all, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of the 1988 Houston Oilers. It was a fun little research project, and it definitely satisfied my football nostalgia for the day. If you’re into old-school football, I highly recommend taking a look at some of these classic rosters. You never know what you might learn!
