Okay, so I’m a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan, right? And I got into this big discussion with my buddies the other day about the best running backs in Bengals history. We were going back and forth, throwing out names, and it got me thinking – I should really put this down somewhere, do a little research, and figure out who really deserves to be on that list.

So, that’s what I did. I started digging, you know? I wanted to see who the top dogs were, the guys who really made a mark on the team as running backs. I went through a bunch of websites, looking at all sorts of stats and records.
First, I just wanted to get a general sense of the history. I mean, the Bengals have been around since 1968, that’s 57 seasons! They’ve had 402 wins. That’s a lot of football and a lot of players who’ve come and gone.
Then, I started looking at individual players. I wanted to find those top 10 lists, the guys who everyone talks about. And sure enough, I started seeing some familiar names popping up.
- Corey Dillon – This guy, he was a beast. I remember watching him play. Turns out, he’s number one in franchise history for rushing yards, with 8,061 yards. He played from 1997 to 2003. He was a monster, a total force on the field.
- James Brooks – Coming in second, we’ve got James Brooks. He was a bit before my time, playing from 1984 to 1991. He racked up 6,447 rushing yards. They are legends, you know. Everyone knows their names.
- Joe Mixon – I had to take a look at Joe Mixon. He played from 2017 to 2023. He’s up there in the top three, which is pretty cool.
- Rudi Johnson – I kept digging and found Rudi Johnson. He played from 2001 to 2007. He made the list of the top guys.
After all that digging, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on the situation. It’s cool to see all these names and remember the impact they had on the team. It took me some time to go through all the records, but it was fun. It’s always fun to do a deep dive into something you’re passionate about. I finished my research, and I had a solid list of the top running backs in Bengals history, at least in my opinion. I’m thinking of putting together a little blog post or something about it, just to share with other Bengals fans. Who knows, maybe it’ll spark another debate!
