Okay, so I got really into this whole retro football thing lately, and I decided to dive deep into the 1985 New York Giants. I wanted to know, like, everything about that team. Here’s how I went about figuring out the roster.

The Hunt Begins
First, I just started with a simple search, Just “ny giants roster 1985”. That gave me a bunch of websites, some looked pretty promising, some… not so much.
Digging Through the Results
I opened up a few of the top results. I needed to be a detective and find websites, that looked reliable. I’m talking clear layouts, maybe some old-school photos, definitely no flashing ads everywhere.
Note-Taking Time
I created a simple document, to keep track of everything I found. I’m old-fashioned, pen and paper, but, you know. And began to make a simple list:
- Quarterbacks:
- Running Backs:
- Wide Receivers:
- Tight Ends:
- Offensive Linemen:
- Defensive Linemen:
- Linebackers:
Then I started filling it in.
Cross-Referencing
The important thing here, is checking information on different websitess. If three sites all said Phil Simms was the starting QB, I felt pretty good about it. If one site had a different name, I’d dig deeper to see which one was right.
The Final Roster
After a couple of hours, and lots of checking, I had a pretty solid list. Of course, I could go even deeper and look up stats and stuff, but for now, I just wanted the names. And I got ’em!

It was a fun little project! I think it is cool to looking back at these old teams, It’s like time traveling through football history. And now, i have my very own 1985 New York Giants roster!
