So, I’ve been kinda obsessed with tracking which NBA teams are killing it on Instagram. You know, just for fun. I mean, who doesn’t want to know which team has the most followers, right? So, I dug into it, and let me tell you, the results are pretty interesting.
First, I started by browsing around, trying to get a feel for which teams were the most talked about. I noticed some teams, like the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers, always seemed to be in the conversation. I figured they’d be at the top, but I wanted to see the actual numbers.
Then I started checking out each team’s official Instagram page. I looked at their follower counts, one by one. It was a bit tedious, but hey, I was on a mission! I made a simple list, nothing fancy. Just the team name and their follower count.

- Los Angeles Lakers – 22.9M
- The other teams, I can’t remember the order
Then, I hit up Google. I searched for “most followed NBA teams on Instagram” and found some articles that basically confirmed what I had already found. I skimmed through them, just to make sure I didn’t miss anything major.
Then I wrote it down, checked the data, checked it again, and boom! My list was ready.
What I found out
As I went through this, I noticed a few things. First off, the Golden State Warriors are way ahead with over 32 million followers! That’s insane! The Lakers are in second, but they’re still a good chunk behind the Warriors. They have a solid 22.9 million followers though.
Another thing I realized is that the number of followers doesn’t always match up with how many championships a team has won. Like, the Detroit Pistons, they’ve won 3 championships, but they’re only 28th in terms of followers.
Oh, and I also found out that LeBron James has the most followers out of all the NBA players, with a whopping 213 million followers. His page is full of highlights, workout stuff, and just random fun facts.
It’s been a fun little project. I’m not a social media expert or anything, but it was cool to see which teams are the most popular on Instagram. It is just interesting how social media can give you a different perspective on a team’s popularity.
