Well, let me tell ya, talkin’ ’bout them basketball fellas from Mississippi, that’s somethin’ ain’t it? Mississippi, yeah, that’s the place. We got some boys who made it big, playin’ that there basketball in the NBA. Big ol’ stadiums, lots of folks watchin’, must be somethin’ else.

Some Mississippi Boys Done Good
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t know all them fancy stats and numbers they throw around. But I know a good player when I see one on that there TV. They runnin’ and jumpin’, throwin’ that ball, it’s somethin’ to watch, I tell ya.
- I heard tell of some fellas, real good ones, from Mississippi. They say California got the most, but Mississippi, we ain’t too shabby neither.
- Them boys, they go to them high schools, playin’ ball, and then, bam! They gettin’ drafted! Big stuff, I tell ya. Someone told me there was even some boys who went straight from high school to the NBA. Skip that college stuff, just went right to playin’ with the pros. Must be some kinda gamble, like them fellas playin’ cards for money.
Mississippi Basketball History, Kinda Sorta
Now, Mississippi’s been around a long time, they sayin’ 200 years or somethin’. They even pickin’ teams and stuff, celebratin’. Well, them basketball boys, they part of that history too, I reckon. They puttin’ Mississippi on the map, in a way. Folks hearin’ about Mississippi ’cause of them fellas playin’ ball.
They got these lists, you know, rankin’ players. Best players from Mississippi, all-time greats and such. I don’t keep track, too many names for this old head. But it’s good, seein’ Mississippi boys doin’ good. It’s like that fella, what was his name… Jerry somethin’, played football? And that quarterback fella, Favre, yeah him. Mississippi boys, they somethin’ else.
Playoffs and Legends

Then they got these playoffs, I hear tell about. That’s when the best teams play each other, fightin’ for that championship. And some of them Mississippi boys, they become legends in them playoffs. Playin’ their hearts out, winnin’ games. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, ain’t it?
From Small Towns to Big Arenas
It’s funny, you know, some of them boys, they come from small towns, little places you ain’t never heard of. And then they end up playin’ in these big arenas, in front of thousands of people. It just goes to show ya, hard work and talent, that’ll take you places. Just like them boys carryin’ a badge of honor for where they come from, be it their home state, the neighborhood or their small town. It’s like they’re sayin’, “Hey, I’m from Mississippi, and I can play ball!”
High School Stars
They got these high schools in Mississippi, and they got some good basketball programs. They listin’ them players, who went to what high school. And some of them, they still playin’ in the NBA, right now! Active players, they call ’em. That’s pretty neat, seein’ a boy from your state playin’ on TV, knowin’ he started out just like the other kids, playin’ ball in high school.
The Draft and the Numbers Game

Now, that draft thing, that’s somethin’ else. They got these numbers, pickin’ players, like it’s a lottery or somethin’. And Mississippi boys, they gettin’ picked! High draft picks, they call ’em. Means they’re real good, see? They got all these stats, too. Points scored, rebounds, assists… I don’t understand all that, but I know it means they’re good at what they do. Like that one fella, Mah… somethin’ Abdul-Rauf, they say he was good. Numbers all over the place, musta been a heck of a player.
Mississippi Pride
So, yeah, them basketball players from Mississippi, they somethin’ special. They representin’ our state, showin’ the world what we got. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I tell ya.
