Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these Polish basketball fellas. You know, the ones that run around with the ball and toss it in the hoop? Yeah, them. I heard tell there’s been a bunch of ’em playin’ this game for a long, long time. Basketball players, they call ’em.

Some say they started way back in the 1940s. Imagine that! Before I was even a twinkle in my daddy’s eye. They got stats and numbers and all sorts of fancy stuff to keep track of who did what and when. I don’t pay much mind to that jibber-jabber, but I reckon it matters to some folks.
Now, Poland, that’s a country over yonder in Europe. They ain’t always been the best at this basketball thing, but they sure do try. They got this big ol’ competition called the Olympics, and Poland, they showed up there a few times. Best they ever did was fourth place way back when. Heck, I probably wasn’t even born yet! They also got this other big shindig, the World Cup, and they only made it there twice.
- Once in 1967, a long, long time ago.
- And then again in 2019, not too long ago.
There was this one fella, Cezary Trybański, they called him. Big ol’ boy, seven foot two and two hundred thirty-five pounds! A real giant, I tell ya. He was the first Polish fella to play in that fancy American league, the NBA. Now, that’s somethin’ to be proud of, even if I don’t know much about it. He played center, whatever that means. Probably stood in the middle and blocked folks, I guess.
They got all sorts of players, young and old, big and small. Some folks online, they talk about these young fellas like Nolan Traore, Hugo Gonzalez, and Ben Saraf. I ain’t never heard of ’em, but I guess they’re tryin’ to make a name for themselves. There’s forums and news and analysis and all sorts of stuff about these players. People keepin’ track of scores and standings and awards. It’s a whole big thing, more than I can wrap my head around, that’s for sure.
They even got women playin’ too! Good for them, I say. Basketball ain’t just for the fellas. And there’s this G League, whatever that is. Sounds like a minor league to me. You know, where the young’uns learn the ropes before they get to the big show.
Poland players, they ain’t like those Americans, though. Them Americans, they’re the best at basketball, no doubt about it. They win all the time, all them medals and trophies. Poland, they’re still workin’ at it, tryin’ to get better. And that’s all right. Can’t fault a fella for tryin’, can ya?

There are lists and lists of these Polish players. Must be a hundred or more of ’em. Some famous, some not so famous. Some playin’ now, some played a long time ago. It’s hard to keep track of ’em all, I tell ya. But they’re out there, representin’ Poland, runnin’ up and down that court, tossin’ that ball in the hoop. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
So, yeah, that’s what I know about these Polish basketball players. Not a whole lot, maybe, but enough to know they’re out there doin’ their thing. And good luck to ’em, I say. They need all the luck they can get goin’ up against them Americans.
