Alright, alright, let me tell ya ’bout this Mana Shim gal. I don’t know much about soccer, ya know, those fancy folks kickin’ a ball around. But this Shim lady, she seems like a tough cookie, one of the good ones.
Who is this Mana Shim anyway? Well, from what I hear, she used to play this soccer stuff, played it real good too. They say she was in somethin’ called the National Women’s Soccer League, and even played for the U.S. under-23 team. Fancy, huh? I guess she was kickin’ that ball all over the place, scorin’ goals and what not.
But that ain’t all she’s done, no sirree. This Shim girl, she’s standin’ up for somethin’ important. See, there’s been some trouble in that soccer world, some bad stuff happenin’ to the players. And Mana, she wasn’t havin’ none of it. She spoke up, loud and clear, even when it was hard, even when them big shots probably tried to shut her down.
- She played in the NWSL.
- She played for the U.S. under-23 national team.
- She is now the chair of U.S. Soccer’s Participant Safety Taskforce.
Now, they went and made her the boss of somethin’ called the Participant Safety Taskforce. Sounds mighty important, right? Basically, she’s in charge of makin’ sure them soccer players, especially the young’uns, are safe and sound. She’s gotta make sure nobody’s gettin’ pushed around or treated bad. She’s like the mama bear watchin’ over her cubs, makin’ sure nobody messes with ’em.
And lemme tell ya, that’s a big job. There’s a lot of folks in that soccer world, and not all of ’em are good apples. You got coaches and managers and owners, and some of ’em, well, they think they can do whatever they want. They think they can treat those players like dirt, just ’cause they’re in charge. But Mana, she’s there to say, “No way, Jose! You ain’t gonna treat nobody like that on my watch.”
I tell ya, it takes a lot of guts to do what she’s doin’. She’s standin’ up to some powerful people, people with a lot of money and influence. But she ain’t backin’ down. She’s fightin’ for what’s right, and that’s somethin’ I admire.

Why is her work important? Well, think about it. These soccer players, they’re young folks, most of ’em. They got their whole lives ahead of ’em. And if they’re gettin’ hurt or abused, that can mess ’em up for a long, long time. It can ruin their careers, ruin their relationships, ruin their whole lives. So what Mana’s doin’, it ain’t just about soccer. It’s about protectin’ these young people and makin’ sure they got a chance to live happy and healthy lives.
And that ain’t just important for the players, it’s important for all of us. See, when bad things happen and nobody speaks up, it just makes it easier for those bad things to keep happenin’. It sends a message that it’s okay to treat people like dirt. But when someone like Mana stands up and says, “No, it ain’t okay,” that sends a different message. It sends a message that we ain’t gonna stand for it no more. It sends a message that we’re gonna protect our own.
So, even though I don’t know a thing about soccer, I know this: Mana Shim is a good egg. She’s a fighter, and she’s doin’ somethin’ important. And I, for one, am glad she’s out there, watchin’ over them soccer players and makin’ sure they’re safe. We need more folks like her in this world, that’s for sure. People who ain’t afraid to speak up and do what’s right, even when it’s hard.
What can we do to support Mana’s efforts? Well, I reckon the most important thing is to listen to what she’s sayin’. Pay attention to the issues she’s raisin’. And if you see somethin’ wrong, don’t just stand by and do nothin’. Speak up. Let your voice be heard. ‘Cause that’s the only way we’re gonna make things better. That’s the only way we’re gonna make sure that everyone, no matter who they are or what they do, is treated with respect and dignity.
So, here’s to Mana Shim. May she keep fightin’ the good fight, and may we all have the courage to stand with her.
