Alright, let’s talk about this judo thing, the Presidents Cup in 2023. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I heard some things. It was a big deal, they say. Lots of young folks flinging each other around.

What’s this Judo Cup Anyways?
So, this Presidents Cup, it happens every year, right before Thanksgiving. They tell me it’s one of the biggest judo deals in the whole country. Like, top three, they say. Imagine that! Kids from all over, and even some grown-ups, I reckon, coming to wrestle and throw each other down. Sounds like a ruckus to me!
This one in 2023, it was in Texas. Irving, Texas, to be exact. At some fancy place called the Irving Convention Center. Must be a big building, holding all them judo folks. They had this cup on a Sunday. Probably took the whole day, with all that wrestling going on.
Who was there?
Now, don’t ask me for names, I can’t remember all them fancy names. But I heard there were people from all over the place. Like, 26 different countries! And over a hundred clubs, whatever them clubs are. Judo clubs, I guess. Lots of teams, then. One of them Cohen Brothers Judo Club, they did real good, won the whole team thing. Good for them, I say.
- Lots of Countries: They said 26 nations, that’s a lot of flags, I bet.
- Many Clubs: More than 100, imagine all them youngins.
- Big Competition: They say it’s one of the top 3 in the USA.
What Happened at the Matches?

Well, they wrestle, don’t they? Try to throw each other on their backs. That’s how you win, I hear. Or you can pin ’em down, or make ’em give up with some kind of arm lock or choke thing. Sounds dangerous to me, but these kids are tough, I guess.
They got these points, you know? Ippon, that’s the big one, you win right away. Then there’s waza-ari, yuko, and koka. Don’t ask me what they mean, it’s all gibberish to me. Just know that ippon is the best, like getting a home run in baseball, I figure.
Weights and All That
And they got these weight things too. Like, little fellas and big fellas don’t wrestle each other. Men got their weights, and women too. Something about kilograms, I don’t understand that metric stuff. But it’s like, lightweights, middleweights, heavyweights, you know? And then they have this “open weight” thing, where anybody can wrestle anybody, I guess. That must be something to see!
Judo Rules, Sort Of
So, the whole point is to throw the other person down, on their shoulder they say. Or pin ’em to the ground, on their back. Or make ’em give up. Kinda like wrestling, but with more rules, I guess. And these judo folks, they got this big organization, the International Judo Federation, or IJF. They’re in charge of all this judo stuff, all over the world. Been around since 1951, can you believe it?

Other Judo Stuff
There’s also these World Judo Championships. That’s a whole other thing, even bigger, I think. They had one in Doha, Qatar in 2023. And then there’s the World Judo Cadets Championships, that’s for the young ones, the teenagers. This judo thing is serious business, ain’t it?
Thinking about Judo
So, that’s what I know about the Presidents Cup in 2023. A big judo deal, lots of people, lots of wrestling. Sounds like a lot of work, all that throwing around. But good for them, getting out there and doing something. Keeps them youngsters busy, I suppose. And maybe they learn something too, about discipline and hard work. That ain’t a bad thing, not at all.
Looking Ahead
They got another Presidents Cup coming up in 2024, in November. More wrestling, more throwing, more ippons. Maybe them Cohen Brothers will win again. Or maybe some other youngsters will come and take the prize. Who knows? That’s the fun of it, I guess.
