Alright, let’s talk about them Jets linebackers, the tough guys in the middle. Don’t know nothin’ about fancy stats or none of that, just gonna tell ya what I seen and heard, ya know, the real deal.

The Old Days, When Football Was Football
Now, back in the day, football was different. Tougher, I reckon. These linebackers, they weren’t just big, they were mean! You had guys like Mo Lewis. He played a long time for the Jets, thirteen years! That’s like, forever in football time. He was a hitter, that one. Always around the ball, smackin’ folks. Folks say he was somethin’ else, a real terror on the field.
- Mo Lewis was tough as nails.
- He played forever for the Jets.
- Always hittin’ somebody.
Don’t remember all the names, too many of ’em, but I remember the feelin’. When them Jets linebackers were on the field, you knew nobody was gonna run all over them. They’d stop ya dead in your tracks. That’s what a linebacker is supposed to do, right? Protect the house, like a good watchdog.
The Sack Masters and the Stoppers
Heard tell of this Mark Gastineau fella. Said he was a sack machine! Seventy-four sacks they say, most ever for the Jets. That’s a whole lotta quarterbacks gettin’ knocked on their butts. Imagine that! Seventy-four times! Musta been scary for them quarterbacks, lookin’ over their shoulder all the time, seein’ Gastineau comin’ at ’em.
Sacks ain’t everything, though. You gotta stop the run too. These linebackers, they had to be tough enough to take on them big ol’ running backs, guys built like trucks. And they did! They’d fill them holes, make them runners bounce around, get nowhere fast. That’s how you win games, stoppin’ the other team from movin’ the ball.

Jets History, Wins and Losses
Now, the Jets, they been around a long time. Heard they won a Super Bowl way back when, with that Joe Namath fella. That was somethin’, I bet. But football’s a tough game, you win some, you lose some. They say the Jets got more losses than wins over the years. Four hundred and eight wins, five hundred losses, and eight ties. That’s a lotta games, a whole lotta Sundays spent watchin’ football.
And through all them years, the linebackers been there. The heart of the defense, the guys who do the dirty work. They ain’t always in the headlines, but they’re always important. You can’t have a good team without good linebackers, that’s for sure.
The Best of the Best? Who Knows!
People always arguin’ about who the best players are. Who’s the best Jets linebacker ever? Heck if I know. Too many good ones to choose from. You got your Mo Lewis, your Gastineau, and a whole bunch of others. All I know is, when them Jets linebackers were playin’ their hearts out, it was excitin’. The crowd would be roarin’, the hits would be cracklin’, and you knew you were watchin’ somethin’ special.
Jets Linebackers: A Tough Bunch

So, that’s my take on them Jets linebackers. Tough guys, hard workers, the kind of players you want on your team. They may not all be famous, and some I just plumb forgot about, but they all contributed somethin’. They’re the ones who make sure the other team don’t get nothin’ easy. They’re the backbone of the defense, and they deserve a whole lotta respect. And that’s all there is to it, plain and simple. The Jets had a bunch of them over the years, from 1970 all the way to 2024, even before that, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind. They weren’t just players; they were warriors. And that’s what made them special, real special.
Hall of Famers and Regular Joes
They say the Jets got a whole bunch of players in the Hall of Fame. Twenty of ‘em! Don’t know all their names, too many to keep track of. But I reckon some of them linebackers must be up there too. It takes a special kind of player to make it to the Hall of Fame, the best of the best. But even the guys who didn’t make it, the regular Joes who played their hearts out for the Jets, they deserve some credit too. They were part of somethin’ bigger than themselves, part of a team, part of a tradition. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, ya know? Being a Jet, being a linebacker, being part of somethin’ special. That’s what it all comes down to, in the end.
