Well, let me tell you, this Ayanna Patterson girl, she’s got some bad luck, ain’t she? Poor thing, always getting hurt. First, it was her shoulder, and now her knee. It’s just one thing after another.

This shoulder problem, it’s been going on for a while now, seems like. That coach, what’s his name? Geno? Yeah, Geno, he said she hurt it again in practice. Just bumped it against somebody, he said. Now they gotta do surgery on it. Can you believe it? Surgery! That ain’t no fun, I tell ya.
And the knee, oh the knee. They said somethin’ about her left knee this time. Said she ain’t gonna play no more this season. Season’s done for her, just like that. All that hard work, all that trainin’, and now she gotta sit on the bench. It just ain’t fair.
- First, she got this shoulder trouble, had to wear a sling and everything.
- Then, she was workin’ hard to get better, trying to play through the pain.
- And now, bam! Her knee gives out. It’s a real shame, it is.
I heard they were hopin’ she’d be ready for the first game, but that ain’t gonna happen now. Not with the shoulder and the knee. She’s gonna be out for a long time, I reckon. And that other girl, Azzi somethin’, she’s hurt too. And that Aubrey girl, her too. It’s like a curse, I tell ya, a real curse.
They were sayin’ she was doin’ good in practice, this Ayanna girl. Runnin’ around, shootin’ hoops. But I guess that don’t matter none now, does it? When you’re hurt, you’re hurt. That’s all there is to it.
This Geno fella, he seems like a good coach. He cares about his players, you can tell. He called Ayanna a “poor kid,” said she can’t catch a break. He’s right about that. She just can’t seem to stay healthy. It’s a tough break for the whole team, too. They need all their players, specially the good ones like Ayanna. Now they gotta figure out how to win without her.
I don’t know much about basketball, mind you, but I know what it’s like to be hurtin’. It ain’t pleasant, no sir. You can’t do the things you want to do. You just gotta sit around and wait, hopin’ you’ll get better someday. And that waitin’ can be the hardest part.

I hope this Ayanna girl gets better soon. I hope she heals up good and strong, and gets back out on that court. She’s a fighter, I can tell. She’ll get through this. But it ain’t gonna be easy, that’s for sure.
Injuries are a part of sports, I guess. But it still hurts to see these young folks gettin’ hurt like this. They work so hard, they got so much talent. And then somethin’ like this happens, and it just takes it all away, at least for a while. It’s a real shame.
So, let’s all send some good thoughts Ayanna’s way. Let’s hope she has a speedy recovery. And let’s hope she can come back stronger than ever next season. She deserves it, that’s for sure.
And that’s all I got to say about that. It ain’t right, but that’s life, I guess. You just gotta keep on keepin’ on, even when things get tough.
