Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this young fella, Denim DeShields. Folks keep talkin’ ’bout him, so I figured I’d spill the beans, the way I see it, ya know?
This Denim kid, he plays basketball. That’s what I hear, anyways. Folks say he’s a guard. Now, I don’t know much ’bout guardin’ nothin’ cept’ chickens from the fox, but seems like it’s important in that ball game.
They say he plays for the UAB Blazers now. Before that, it was the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Sounds like he gets around, that boy. Jumpin’ from team to team like a flea on a hot skillet. But hey, that’s their business, not mine.
I keep hearin’ he’s gettin’ awards and such. Somethin’ ’bout an “American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? I reckon it means he’s good at throwin’ that ball around. Good for him, I say. Keeps him outta trouble, maybe.

Now, I ain’t never seen him play, mind you. Don’t get out much these days. Too busy tendin’ to the garden and feedin’ the cats. But the TV folks, they sure like talkin’ ’bout him. ESPN, The Athletic, all them big names. They got videos and news and all sorts of things. I guess he’s a big deal, this Denim.
They say he’s got “highlights.” Don’t know what that means. Maybe he wears bright colors when he plays? Or maybe he does fancy tricks with the ball. Like I said, I ain’t seen it myself, so I’m just guessin’ here.
And interviews! This boy’s talkin’ to the TV people. Imagine that! A young fella like him, on the TV, just chattin’ away. I bet he’s got plenty to say, seein’ as how he’s so good at that ball game.
Seems like every week there’s somethin’ new ’bout him. “Latest news,” they call it. I reckon that means they’re keepin’ a close eye on him. Seein’ what he’s up to, who he’s playin’, how many points he’s scorin’. It’s a whole lotta fuss, if you ask me.
But hey, that’s the way the world is these days. Folks gettin’ famous for all sorts of things. Throwin’ a ball, singin’ a song, even just makin’ a fool of themselves on the internet. It’s all the same to me, long as they ain’t causin’ no trouble.
So, this Denim DeShields, he’s a basketball player. A good one, it seems. He plays for UAB Blazers, used to be with Mississippi State Bulldogs. He’s gettin’ awards and talkin’ to the TV people. And folks are keepin’ a close eye on him. That’s the long and short of it, as far as I can tell.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens. Them foxes are gettin’ mighty bold these days, and I ain’t got time for all this basketball talk. But you youngsters, you go on ahead and enjoy yourselves. Watch that Denim boy play, if that’s what makes ya happy. Just don’t forget to do your chores and stay outta trouble, ya hear?
Denim DeShields seems like a good kid, all things considered. He works hard, plays hard, and stays out of trouble. That’s about all you can ask for from these youngins these days.
