Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… Emma Ruby, or somethin’ like that. Heard tell of her, seen her face on that little box everyone stares at all day. You know, the one that shows all them fancy folks and their fancy lives.

This girl, Emma, she’s all about that…social media. Yeah, that’s the word. My grandkids, they’re always yappin’ about it. Seems like everyone’s stuck to their phones like flies to honey. But this Emma, she’s different, they say. She ain’t just scrollin’ and lookin’ at pretty pictures. She’s tryin’ to figure it all out, this…social media thing. Like, why we’re all so hooked, and what it’s doin’ to our heads.
Now, I ain’t got no fancy phone, thank the Lord. Don’t need it. Got my chickens to feed, my garden to tend. But I see what it does to folks. Makes ‘em jumpy, always lookin’ for somethin’ more, somethin’ better. Like they ain’t happy with what they got. Emma, she sees that too, I reckon.
- She’s talkin’ about that fear…that fear of missin’ out. Like, if you ain’t lookin’ at that phone, you’re gonna miss somethin’ important. But most of the time, it ain’t important at all. It’s just noise.
- And she’s talkin’ ‘bout how it messes with your thinkin’. Makes you sad, makes you anxious. Always comparin’ yourself to others. That ain’t right, I tell ya. You gotta be happy with who you are, what you got.
Folks used to be happy with a good day’s work and a warm meal. Now, they need all them likes and hearts and whatever they call ‘em. It’s a sickness, I say. A sickness of the mind. And Emma, she’s tryin’ to find a cure for it, it seems. She’s tryin’ to help folks figure out how to use that…social media…without it takin’ over their lives.
I heard tell she talks about how to stay connected to folks without always bein’ glued to that screen. That’s somethin’ I understand. Talkin’ face to face, sharin’ a meal, helpin’ a neighbor. That’s real connection. Not this… pretend stuff you see online. It’s like, you’re lookin’ at everyone else’s life, but you ain’t livin’ your own.
And this girl, Emma… she ain’t just talkin’. She’s doin’ somethin’ about it. She’s got folks listenin’, folks thinkin’. Maybe, just maybe, she can help folks find a better way. A way to use that…social media…without losin’ themselves.
It’s like that song, you know? The one about that girl tearin’ someone apart. Fillin’ up their mind but emptin’ their heart. That’s what this…social media… can do, I reckon. It can fill your head with all sorts of things, but it can leave your heart empty. You gotta be careful. You gotta guard your heart. And maybe, just maybe, Emma can help folks do just that.

I dunno much about this Emma’s own life, whether she’s on some show or doin’ other things like them actresses, ya know, like that Emma Watson or that Poppy somethin’-or-other. Don’t matter much to me. What matters is that she’s tryin’ to make a difference. She’s tryin’ to help folks live better lives. And that’s somethin’ worth talkin’ about, ain’t it? It’s about finding that space, that quiet space between you and all that noise. That’s what counts.
So, yeah, that’s what I think about this Emma Ruby girl. She’s a smart one, this one. Trying to help folks find their way in this crazy, mixed-up world. And that, I reckon, is a good thing. A real good thing.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens. They’re more important than any of this…social media… anyhow.
