Man, I’ve been thinking about the old Dallas Cowboys running backs a lot lately. It’s crazy to look back at how many awesome players they had on their team throughout the years.

So I started to dig up some stuff. You know, just surfing the web, looking for info about those old-school Cowboys running backs. I found some pretty good stuff about them.
Digging into the past
First, I looked into some of the most well-known ones, like Emmitt Smith. It was a good point to start. Then, I came across some articles listing the top 10 running backs in Cowboys history. Pretty cool, right? Marion Barber was on a few of those lists. They called him “Marion The Barbarian” – that’s a cool nickname!
- Found a list that included Robert Newhouse. Apparently, he played from 1972 to 1983 and had over 5,000 yards from scrimmage. That’s a lot of yards!
- Came across some stuff about Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith setting records and being some of the greatest players in NFL history. They’re both in the Hall of Fame, which makes sense.
- Found out that Emmitt Smith is still the all-time leading rusher in the NFL, even 22 years later. Over 18,000 career rushing yards – that’s just insane!
- Then there was this guy Duane Thomas. Played in the early 70s. I guess he had some problems with the team over his contract, which messed up his career. But, still, he was one of the old Dallas Cowboys running backs.
I spent hours just reading all these articles and watching old game highlights. It’s really cool to see how much the Cowboys relied on their running backs over the years. It seemed like almost every decade they had a star running back leading the offense.
It was a fun journey looking into the past and learning more about these legendary players. I think it is safe to say that the Cowboys have had some of the best running backs in NFL history.
