You know, this NBA thing, it’s got all them tall fellas jumping around. And some of ’em, they come from all over. Now, I heard there’s some from Poland, a place far, far away. Yep, Polish players in the NBA, can you believe it? They play basketball just like them American boys, only they’re from Poland.
I heard one fella, he’s called, uh, Jeremy… Jeremy somethin’. Jeremy Sochan! That’s the one. Plays for that San Antonio team, the Spurs, I reckon. They say he’s a good player, that Jeremy Sochan. Young fella too, born in, uh, 2003 I heard. He can jump real high. He plays for that Poland national team too.
- This Jeremy, he’s a big’un, 6 foot 8, maybe more.
- Weighs a good 230 pounds, I reckon.
- Born in May, on the 20th, they say.
- Plays for the Spurs, that’s what they tell me.
They got all these numbers, these, uh, stats, I think they call ’em. They say how many points he gets, how many times he gets the ball back, all that stuff. This NBA polish players thing is big business. I don’t understand all of it, but them boys sure can run and jump. They say Jeremy, he’s got good stats too.
Then there was another one, years back. A real big fella, name of, uh, Trybanski, or something like that. Cezary Trybański! First Polish fella in the whole NBA, they say. He was a giant, 7 foot 2, I hear. A real big center. Can you imagine? That’s taller than my old barn door. He played for NBA before, yep, he did. He was the first one. First Polish player in the NBA, ever.
And that other one, they used to call him “The Polish Hammer.” Funny name, ain’t it? Gortat, that was his name. Marcin Gortat. Played for a team called the Magic, then another called the Suns. He was good, that Polish Hammer. Strong as an ox, I bet. He was known as the Polish Hammer, that’s what they all called him.
There are lots of European players in the NBA. They say there are 61 of them from Europe. Some of them, they’re the best players in the whole league. The European players in NBA, they all got their own teams back home, but they come over here to play in the NBA. It’s a big deal, you know.
Now, I don’t know much about this basketball, but I hear it’s a big sport. They got the World Cup and all sorts of things. And folks from all over watch these games. This Poland players thing in the NBA, it shows you, anybody can make it big, even if they’re from a small place like Poland.
This Italy, I heard about that too. There’s a player, and they want him to play for Italy in the World Cup. But he probably won’t. This Paolo Banchero. He’s a good player. But he’ll probably stay with the American team. This Paolo Banchero, he’s got a big decision to make.
This whole NBA thing is a big deal, I reckon. Lots of folks watchin’, lots of money involved. And these Polish players, they’re right there in the middle of it all. Shows you what hard work and a little bit of luck can do, I suppose. Even if you’re from Poland, you can still make it big in America. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
So, next time you see them tall fellas jumpin’ around on that court, remember, some of ’em might be from Poland. They’re just like them American boys, only they come from a little bit further away. And they can sure play that basketball.
And there’s that Jeremy fella, remember him. They say he’s gonna be a big star. A Polish star in the NBA. Who woulda thought, huh? These young folks, they can do anything these days. It’s a different world.
