Alright, let’s gab about this football thing, you know, the kicky ball game. They say some teams, they just can’t lose, like they got some kinda magic spell on ’em. It ain’t magic, though, it’s just good playin’, I reckon.

Now, I heard tell of this Italy team. Italy, yeah, those pasta-eatin’ fellas. They went on a tear, a real long tear, like a rip in my old apron, but longer. They say it was 37 games they didn’t lose. Thirty-seven! Can you believe that? That’s more than the hairs on my old dog’s back, bless his heart, he’s gone now. Thirty-seven games, that’s a whole lotta Sundays, let me tell ya.
They was playin’ and playin’, and nobody could beat ’em. Musta been tough as nails, those boys. Like my ol’ rooster, always peckin’ and never backin’ down. This happened sometime between, what was it, 2018 and 2021, they say. Folks were callin’ ’em solid, like a good ol’ oak tree, especially on defense. They just wouldn’t let nobody score, stingy like my neighbor with his apples.
Before them Italians, there was the Brazilians. You know, the ones from that big country down south where they dance all the time. They was good too, real good. They had this streak goin’ back in the day, somethin’ like 1993 to 1996. Thirty-five games they went without losin’. That’s almost as many as the Italians, but not quite. Close, but no cigar, as they say.
And then there was the Spaniards. Them Spaniards, they like to kick the ball around too. They matched the Brazilians, 35 games, sometime around 2006 to 2009. Folks was sayin’ they was somethin’ special. But nobody beat them Italians, no sir.
Now, some folks talk about club teams too. They say there’s this record, 73 games without losin’ by some fellas playin’ for Milan way back when. Two of ’em, Maldini and Albertini, their names was. Seventy-three! That’s like countin’ all the chickens I ever had, and then some.
And then this year, there was some German team, Bayer somethin’ or other. They went 51 games without a loss, that’s what I heard. Fifty-one! Young fellas, they was. Runnin’ around like my grandkids on a sugar rush. Impressive, real impressive, but still not as long as them Italians when they was playin’ for their country, not no club.
Then there’s this American football, not the kicky kind, the one where they wear all them pads and helmets. Looks like a buncha bumblebees crashin’ into each other, if you ask me. Anyways, one of them teams, the Indianapolis Colts, they won 23 games in a row. That’s a lot, but it ain’t the same as this here international football. Different kinda game, ya see.
- Italy: 37 games unbeaten, the big winners.
- Brazil and Spain: 35 games, pretty darn good.
- Those Milan fellas: 73 games, but that’s for a club, not a country.
- Bayer: 51 games, those young fellas did good too, also for a club team though.
- Colts: 23 games, but that’s that other kind of football.
So, there you have it. Them Italians, they’re the ones with the longest unbeaten run in that international football thing. Thirty-seven games. That’s a record that’s gonna be hard to beat, I reckon. Like tryin’ to catch a greased pig at the county fair. It ain’t easy, no sir.
Thirty-seven games, just think about it. That’s a whole lotta kickin’ and runnin’ and not losin’. They musta been somethin’ special, those Italians.
