Hey guys, what’s up? Today I wanna share something about my recent digging into the Washington Redskins’ running back history. Man, it was a wild ride!

So, first, I started by trying to get a general idea of the team’s history. You know, the basics. Turns out, the Washington Commanders, as they’re called now, were founded way back in 1932. They were first called the Boston Braves, then the Boston Redskins, and finally the Washington Redskins in 1933. They stayed the Redskins until 2020. They’ve been in Washington D.C. since 1937. Pretty cool, right?
Then I got into the whole name change thing. It’s a whole big thing, you know? But that’s not what I was really interested in. I wanted to know about the running backs, the guys who made the magic happen on the field.
I started with the big names, the legends. One name that kept popping up was John Riggins. This guy is their all-time leader in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. What a beast! I watched some old footage of him, and wow, he was something else.
After that, I dug a little deeper. Found out about other great running backs like Clinton Portis. This guy played for the Redskins from 2004 to 2010. He is the second-most in team history when it comes to rushing yards. He must have been amazing to watch!
Some Notable Names
I also came across names like Earnest Byner and Larry Brown. These guys are apparently some of the greatest running backs in the team’s history. Their names kept coming up again and again whenever people talked about the team’s history.
The team has a history of winning games and championships. They won three Super Bowls, and have two NFC championships. They have had their share of ups and downs, but they were certainly a great team.

Here’s a list of some notable players I found:
- John Riggins – The all-time leader, a true legend.
- Clinton Portis – Second-most rushing yards in team history.
- Earnest Byner – A name that kept coming up among the greats.
- Larry Brown – Another legendary running back for the team.
I spent hours reading articles, watching videos, and just soaking up all the information I could find. It was like going back in time and seeing these guys in action.
This whole experience was fascinating. Learned a lot about the Washington Redskins, their history, and their legendary running backs. Hope you guys found this interesting too. Let me know what you think!
