Hey everyone, I’m back again with another one of my little projects. Today, I want to talk about something that’s been bugging me for a while – the 2002 Cleveland Cavaliers roster. Yeah, you heard that right, the 2002 Cavs. I was going through some old stuff and it got me thinking, “What was that team really like?” So, I decided to dig in and see what I could find.

First off, I started by just looking up the basics. You know, the usual stuff – who was on the team, what positions they played, the whole nine yards. I found a bunch of websites that list out the roster, but they were all kind of… dry. Just names and numbers, not really giving me the full picture.
Players on that Team
So, I kept digging. I wanted to know more than just their names. I wanted to know their stories. For example, I found out that Carlos Boozer was actually drafted by the Cavs that year. He was a second-round pick, number 6 to be exact. And he signed a multi-year deal with them, which was pretty cool to discover. I also found that DeSagana Diop was selected as the #8 pick in the First Round of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, it’s really interesting to see it.
- Carlos Boozer
- Tierre Brown
- Bimbo Coles
- Ricky Davis
Then there were guys like Ricky Davis, Tierre Brown, and Bimbo Coles. I went through each player one by one, looking up their stats, their draft year, any interesting tidbits I could find. It was like putting together a puzzle, each piece giving me a better understanding of the team.
But it wasn’t just about the players who did well. I also learned about the struggles. Like, Zydrunas Ilgauskas was supposed to be a big deal, but he was plagued by injuries. Same with DeSagana Diop. He was a first-round pick in 2001, but he only played 18 games due to knee, ankle and foot injuries. And Andre Miller, he got traded to the Clippers that year. It was a tough season for the Cavs, no doubt about it. They lost 50 games that year. Can you believe that? That’s the third straight season they lost that many.
I spent hours on this, just piecing it all together. I even tried to find some old game footage, but that was tough. Most of what I found were just highlights, not full games. Still, it was fun to see some of these guys in action, even if it was just for a few minutes.
By the end of it, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of the 2002 Cavs. They weren’t a great team, but they had some interesting players and some tough breaks. It was a real learning experience, and it just goes to show you that there’s always more to the story than what you see on the surface.

Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into the 2002 Cleveland Cavaliers roster. Hope you guys found it as interesting as I did. Let me know what you think, and I’ll see you all in the next one!
