Okay, so I’ve been a Cincinnati Bengals fan for a long, long time. You know, since I was a little kid. And one thing I’ve always been fascinated by is the history of the team, especially the players who have come and gone. Recently, I got this idea stuck in my head about the running backs, specifically the past running backs.

So, I decided to dive deep and really figure out who were the best, the most memorable, and even just the ones who were here for a cup of coffee. I started with the current roster, which is easy enough, you know, names like Gary Brightwell, Chase Brown, and Chris Evans. But I wanted to go way back.
First, I had to gather all the information. It wasn’t easy, but I found a website that had complete rosters for the Bengals. I went to work and pulled up all the rosters year by year. Boy, it took me a long time to go through all of them.
Then, I started making a list. I wrote down every single running back who’s ever played for the Bengals. From there, I started doing some digging on each one. I looked up their stats, read old articles, and even watched some old game footage when I could find it. It was a real trip down memory lane, I tell you.
- I rediscovered guys like Corey Dillon, who was just a beast. He was our all-time leading rusher for a while!
- Then there was Giovani Bernard. Man, that guy could catch the ball out of the backfield like nobody’s business, and he played here for eight years!
- And of course, I found out about Stanley Wilson, who played for the Bengals in the 80s.
After all that research, I started to put together a timeline. I wanted to see how the running back position evolved over the years for the Bengals. It was really cool to see how different eras had different styles of running backs. I went through all the data and sorted them by year and how many yards they ran that year.
Finally, I decided to rank them. This was the hardest part, honestly. How do you compare a guy from the 70s to a guy who played last year? But I did my best, and I came up with my own personal list of the best Bengals running backs of all time. It’s all based on what I found and what I think, of course, so it’s totally subjective.
This whole thing was a real passion project for me, and it took up a lot of my free time, but it was worth it. I learned so much about the Bengals and the history of the running back position. It made me appreciate the team even more, and it was just a lot of fun to do all that digging and reminiscing. I’m not sure what I am going to do with this list. Maybe I’ll use it to compare with my friends’ lists.
