So, I was digging around the internet the other day, trying to find out who the tallest wide receivers in the NFL are. You know, those guys who can just reach up and grab the ball like it’s nothing? It got me thinking, “How tall do you actually have to be to make it as a wide receiver in the pros?”
I started by looking up the average height for an NFL wide receiver. Turns out, it’s right around 6’0″. Not bad, right? But I was curious about the outliers, the real giants of the game.
After some more searching, I found out that there are four guys in the NFL right now who are all 6’5″. Can you believe that? 6’5″! They’re like towers out there on the field. They are so awesome. And it’s really amazing. I’ve gotta say. It also reminds me of a former Raiders defensive tackle, Richard Sligh. He’s the tallest player in NFL history. He is the only seven-footer player in NFL. And he played eight games for the Raiders, which is amazing.
So I started going through their stats, watching some highlights. It’s incredible how they use their height to their advantage. They can out-jump almost anyone, make those crazy contested catches, and just dominate in the red zone.
I also find another intersting thing is that in 2002, Dallas Cowboys’s Gibson had the distinction of becoming the NFL’s first player to be officially listed at 400 pounds or 181 kilograms. Such a big guy!
Here are my takeaways after this digging:
- Height matters: Being tall is obviously a huge plus for a wide receiver. It’s not everything, but it definitely gives you an edge.
- These 6’5″ guys are special: They’re not just tall; they’re also incredibly athletic and skilled. It’s a rare combination.
- The game is always changing: Who knows what the ideal wide receiver will look like in 10 or 20 years? It’ll be fun to watch and see. There are also some guys like Dan Skipper, who is 6 feet 10 inches tall. That’s also amazing.
Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into the world of tall NFL wide receivers. I just thought it was interesting, and figured I’d share my findings with y’all. Hope you enjoyed it!
