Today, I really wanted to dig into something that I am really a big fan of, and that’s the history of the Dallas Cowboys linebackers. I have been watching them since I was a kid, and these guys are just amazing. So, I spent the whole day doing some research and organizing my notes.

I started by searching for the best linebackers in the Cowboys’ history. I found a bunch of names, but a few really stood out. The first one was Lee Roy Jordan. This guy was a beast! He played for 14 years and is still the franchise’s all-time leading tackler. I mean, 32 interceptions and 472 return yards? That’s just insane! It’s no wonder they say he was the best all-time Dallas Cowboys linebacker.
Then I stumbled upon Larry Christopher Allen Jr., who, although primarily known as an offensive guard, had the skills and speed that could have made him a formidable linebacker. It got me thinking about how versatile some players can be.
Another name that popped up was Dexter Coakley. Apparently, he was a standout player during some tough years for the team. He made it to the Pro Bowl three times! People say he was the best player on the team when they weren’t doing so great, and many folks maybe didn’t appreciate him enough because the team’s performance overshadowed his individual brilliance.
And of course, I had to look into Chuck Howley. This guy is a legend. Everyone agrees that he’s easily one of the best linebackers in Cowboys’ history. Then there’s DeMarcus Ware. It is a pity that he hasn’t made it to the Hall of Fame yet, but his record speaks for itself. He’s definitely up there with the greats.
After gathering all these names, I started organizing my notes. Here’s what I ended up with:
- Lee Roy Jordan: The best of the best. 14 years, tons of tackles, and a true leader on the field.
- Larry Christopher Allen Jr.: It is a pity that he did not play linebacker.
- Dexter Coakley: A bright spot during some dark times. Three-time Pro Bowler.
- Chuck Howley: A legend, no doubt about it.
- DeMarcus Ware: A Hall of Famer in all but name. So impressive.
I spent hours reading articles, and forum posts, and watching old game highlights. It was so cool to see these guys in action and to learn about their careers. I even found some old interviews where they talked about their time with the Cowboys. It was interesting to see the game from their perspective.

By the end of the day, I had a pretty good understanding of the Cowboys’ linebacker history. These guys are all incredible athletes, and they’ve made a huge impact on the team and the sport. It was a great learning experience, and I am so glad I decided to dive into this topic.
This whole process really showed me how much history there is behind the Dallas Cowboys linebackers. Each of these players brought something unique to the team, and it was awesome to piece it all together. I hope you guys enjoyed this little trip down memory lane as much as I did!
