Hey folks, gather ’round, ’cause I’m about to spill the beans on something I’ve been digging into lately – Russian players in the NBA. I gotta say, it’s been a bit of a head-scratcher, but a fun one at that.

So, I started out thinking, “Alright, let’s see who’s balling from Russia in the NBA right now.” I hit up a few different websites, but, uh, most of them tell me that there aren’t any Russian players in the NBA right now. Turns out, it’s not as common as it used to be. But hey, I wasn’t about to give up that easy.
I kept digging and found out some cool stuff. Like, did you know that the most recent Russian players to be in the NBA were Sergey Karasev, Sasha Kaun, and Timofey Mosgov? Yeah, they were the last ones to have been active, but they’re not around anymore. Then I found some other names, like, there have been 23 Russian players in total in the NBA, ever.
I wanted to make a list of all the Russian players who have ever played in the NBA. Then I realized, “Wait a minute, there’s gotta be more to this story.” I mean, basketball’s a global game, right? So, I started looking into players from other countries that are similar to Russia, too.
Here’s where it gets interesting. According to one website, the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns each have six international players on their rosters. That’s a lot! And overall, the NBA has a record 125 international players from 40 different countries this season. Talk about diversity!
Then, I stumbled upon some info about players from transcontinental countries. Turkey’s got 14 players, Georgia has 11, and there are even 83 players from the former Yugoslavia. It’s like a whole melting pot of basketball talent out there.
Here’s what I did next:

- I made a list of all the Russian players I could find who played in the NBA.
- I looked up their stats, their teams, and any cool stories about them.
- I compared the number of Russian players to those from other countries.
My Findings
I found out there used to be more Russian players in the league. Now, there are not any players from Russia currently in the NBA, but there are a whole bunch of international players making their mark. I even found a website that lists all the NBA and ABA players born in the Russian Federation. But yeah, the main takeaway is that basketball is truly a global sport, and it’s awesome to see players from all over the world competing at the highest level.
So, that’s my little adventure into the world of Russian players in the NBA. It might not be what I expected at first, but I learned a lot, and that’s what counts, right? Keep on hoopin’, everyone!
