So, I got it in my head to dig into the history of the Detroit Lions, specifically their running backs. You know, just a random thought that turned into a full-blown project. I started with a simple search, nothing fancy, just wanted to see who the big names were.

Barry Sanders, obviously, that name popped up everywhere. I mean, the guy’s a legend. 10 Pro Bowls, 10 All-Pro selections, 2 Offensive Player of the Year awards, and 4 Rushing titles – the list just kept going on and on. He is a god. Then there was Billy Sims, another name that came up a few times. It is interesting.
- First, I just googled “Detroit Lions running backs” to get a general idea.
- Then I started to look into individual players, starting with Sanders. I just wanted to see their stats, awards, and any interesting stories about them.
- After that, I started to get into some team history stuff.
The Lions have retired some jersey numbers, like Sanders’ number 20, and they’ve got their own hall of fame. It is interesting how teams honor their past players. And wow, the Lions’ history goes way back to 1930!
I also stumbled upon some recent news about David Montgomery. Apparently, the coach thought he was out for the season, but now there’s a chance he might play in the postseason. Then, I found this cool thing where you can watch old highlights of Barry Sanders from the 1996 season. That guy was something else! There are also some videos about him, I watched them with great interest!

I learned that the guy who really took control of the Lions was William Clay Ford Sr., who became a minority owner and team president back in 1956. It sounds like there was some drama with other owners, and he ended up buying them all out for $4.5 million. Man, that’s a lot of money!
This whole thing started as just a quick look into some football players, but it turned into this whole history lesson about the team. It’s amazing how one little search can lead you down so many different paths. I just wanted to know who their best running backs were, and now I’m learning about team ownership and historical highlights. I did not expect that at all.
This journey made me appreciate the history of the Detroit Lions and their legendary players even more. It is awesome.
