My goodness, talking ’bout them best wizards players of all time, huh? Well, sit down, sit down, let me tell you what I know. Them boys sure can play, runnin’ up and down that court like a chicken with its head cut off, but some, they just shine brighter than a new penny, you know?

The Best of the Best Wizards
Now, the first one, gotta be that Wes Unseld. That man, he was somethin’ else. He played back in my day, long time ago, from like ’68 to ’81. Strong as an ox, that one. They say he was the best, and I reckon they’re right. He was a center, stood tall, like, six foot seven inches. Big fella. Could grab that ball like nobody’s business. Rebounds? Honey, he was king of the rebounds. Ain’t nobody could take that ball away from him once he got his hands on it.
He played his whole life with the Wizards. Back then they called ’em the Bullets. He was the best, best player that team ever had. Folks talkin’, sayin’ he was the best in the whole dang league, not just the Wizards. Won all them awards. Most Valuable Player, they called it. That’s like bein’ the top dog, the best of the best. And he was a good shot, too. Got lots of points. He was a real star, that Wes Unseld. Everybody knew his name.
More Good Players Who Wore the Wizards Uniform
Then there was this other fella, Michael Jordan. Now, he came along later, much later. Played for the Wizards for just a little bit, 2001 to 2003. Wasn’t with ’em long. He was a big shot, already famous from playin’ with the Chicago Bulls. Heard tell he was the best ever to play the game. He was older when he played for the Wizards, not as spry as he used to be, but still good, real good. He could fly through the air, dunk that ball like a crow stealin’ corn. Folks loved to watch him play. He was somethin’ special, that’s for sure.
- Wes Unseld – Best there ever was, they say.
- Michael Jordan – Famous fella, played for the Wizards for a spell.
Another one I heard about is Elvin Hayes. Big fella like Wes, another center. Played in the 70s with the Bullets, then he went off somewhere else. But when he was here, he was one of the best. He was a scoring machine, that one. Couldn’t nobody stop him from putting that ball in the hoop. They say he and Wes were like two peas in a pod, best teammates ever. Won a championship together. That’s like winning the county fair, but for basketball.
There is Earl Monroe. He played a bit before them other fellas. Another top scorer, one of the best the team ever saw. He was like a little magician with that basketball, dribblin’ and shootin’ it like nobody’s business. They called him “Earl the Pearl” cause he was so smooth. When he had the ball, you could count on him puttin’ up them points. Him and Wes were a force to be reckoned with.
Remembering the Greats
And then there’s Walt Bellamy. He was in the 60s, before my time, but they sure talk about him a lot. Big scorer too. He played before the team moved here, when they were still called the Packers, or the Zephyrs, or something like that. But everyone says he was a real star.

Gus Johnson. He played in the 60s and 70s too. Folks loved him. He played hard, real hard. Not the biggest fella, but strong. He was a real crowd-pleaser, that one. They say he was one of the first to really fly through the air, dunkin’ that ball with all his might. He was a real good defender, too. Took that ball away from the other team like takin’ candy from a baby.
Lots of Good Players, But These Are the Best
Lots of other good players wore that Wizards uniform. Gilbert Arenas, John Wall, Bradley Beal. Good players, all of ’em. But when you’re talkin’ ’bout the best wizards players of all time, you gotta talk about Wes Unseld, Michael Jordan, Elvin Hayes, Earl Monroe, Walt Bellamy, and Gus Johnson. Those are the names that keep poppin’ up, like weeds in a garden. They were the best of the best, the cream of the crop. They made that team what it is today. They’re the ones people will always remember.
Those old boys, they could really play. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. Those were the good old days, I tell ya. The good old days.
