Alright, let’s jaw about some handsome basketball player, you know, the ones them youngsters are always yappin’ about. I ain’t no expert, but I watch them fellas runnin’ and jumpin’ on that TV sometimes.

First off, you got this LeBron James fella. Folks call him “The King” or somethin’. He’s been around a long, long time. Like, longer than my prize-winning rooster, bless his little feathery soul. This LeBron, he’s strong as an ox, and fast as a greased pig. He throws that ball, and it goes right in, swish! Makes it look easy, like pickin’ apples off a tree. They say he’s one of the best ever, won all sorts of championships. Guess that makes him pretty good, huh? And he’s still playin’, even though he’s getting’ on in years. Reminds me of my old mule, still kickin’ even when she’s gray in the muzzle. LeBron, he’s got a legacy, that’s what they call it. Means folks will remember him long after he hangs up his shoes, like them old-timey singers on the radio.
Now, there’s this other fella, Kelly Oubre Jr. He’s younger than my grandson, that’s for sure. Plays for the Charlotte Hornets, whatever that is. Sounds like a bunch of angry bees if you ask me. They say he’s a “small forward.” I guess that means he ain’t as big as some of them other fellas, but he’s still quick and can jump real high. He’s about 28 years old, just a spring chicken in my book. Folks say he’s one of the hottest basketball players, which I guess means he’s good-lookin’. He’s got that fancy hair, always changing it up, kinda like my neighbor’s peacock, always struttin’ around showin’ off its feathers. They say in 2022 he was 27, so he just had a birthday, the young whippersnapper.
- LeBron James: Old fella, strong as an ox, been playin’ forever.
- Kelly Oubre Jr.: Young fella, quick and jumpy, got fancy hair. Plays for the Hornets.
This basketball thing, it’s a whole world of its own. They got all sorts of teams and players, all runnin’ around tryin’ to throw that ball in the hoop. It’s kinda like a barnyard scramble, everyone chasin’ after the same feed bucket. And these fellas, they ain’t just playin’ for fun, they’re makin’ a whole heap of money. Enough to buy a whole herd of cows, I reckon. And the fans, they go wild for ‘em. Screamin’ and hollerin’, just like when the prize pig gets loose at the county fair.
Some of these fellas, they got more than just muscles and jumpin’ ability. They got that… what do they call it… “star power”? Like them movie stars in them picture shows. They’re on TV all the time, and their faces are plastered everywhere. Reminds me of them old campaign posters folks used to put up ’round election time. And folks love ’em or hate ’em, just like them politicians.
Now, I ain’t much for keepin’ up with all the latest gossip, but I hear tell that some of these basketball fellas are real popular on somethin’ called “social media.” Sounds like a bunch of chickens clucking at each other to me. But I guess that’s how folks communicate these days. They share pictures and videos and all sorts of things. And these handsome basketball players, well, they got a lot of folks followin’ them, admirin’ them, wishin’ they could be just like ’em.
It’s a funny thing, this basketball craze. Folks get so worked up over it. But I guess it ain’t so different from anything else. People always need somethin’ to cheer for, somethin’ to get excited about. And these handsome basketball player, they give ’em that. They’re strong and skilled, they’re entertainin’ to watch, and they give folks somethin’ to talk about. And ain’t that what it’s all about in the end? Findin’ a little bit of joy and excitement in this ol’ world?

So, whether you’re a fan of LeBron and his legacy, or Kelly Oubre and his fancy hair, or any of them other fellas runnin’ around on that court, there’s somethin’ for everyone in the world of basketball. It’s a young man’s game, but even an old lady like me can appreciate a bit of skill and athleticism when I see it. And who knows, maybe one of these days I’ll even figure out all them rules and what a “small forward” really is. But until then, I’ll just keep watchin’ them fellas jump and run, and marvel at how they can make that ball go swish, just like magic.
