Alright, let’s talk about this Angel Reese girl and them Washington stats, or whatever they call it. You know, like when them young’uns play that basketball game, runnin’ up and down the court, throwin’ that orange ball. I don’t know much about all that fancy stuff, but I can tell you what I see, ya hear?

So, this Angel Reese, she’s a big girl, strong like an ox. Plays for that Chicago Sky team, they say. Folks call her the “Bayou Barbie” or somethin’, sounds like one of them dolls my granddaughter plays with. She’s a forward, that means she’s supposed to get in there and grab them rebounds, like gettin’ eggs from the henhouse, gotta be quick and strong. And shoot the ball too, of course, put it through that hoop thing.
Now, they got all these numbers, stats they call ’em. Like points, that’s how many times she throws the ball in the hoop, I guess. And rebounds, that’s how many times she grabs the ball after someone misses. And assists, that’s when she passes the ball to her teammate and they score. It’s all a bit much for an old woman like me, but I reckon it tells you how good a player is.
- Points: How many times she scores, like I said.
- Rebounds: Gettin’ that ball after a miss, gotta be tough.
- Assists: Helpin’ her teammates score, that’s nice of her.
- Steals: Takin’ the ball from the other team, sneaky like a fox.
- Blocks: Stoppin’ the other team from scorin’, gotta be tall for that.
They say Angel Reese, she got a good amount of points this season, somethin’ like 462 they said. And a whole bunch of rebounds, more than anyone else on her team, I think. Like 446 or somethin’. That’s a lot of rebounds, even I can tell you that. She also got a few of them assists, steals, and blocks too. Sounds like she’s a pretty good player, all around.
Now, they compare her to this other girl, Caitlin Clark. She plays for, uh… I don’t rightly remember which team. But they say she’s real good too, scores a lot of points. More than Angel, they say. Somethin’ like 769 points. That’s a whole heap of points! But Angel, she got more rebounds. So, it’s like one’s good at one thing, the other’s good at another. Like me and my sister, she was always good at bakin’ pies, I was good at milkin’ the cows. Everyone’s got their own strengths, ya know?
This whole stat thing, it’s kinda like weighin’ your chickens at the end of the year. You wanna see how many eggs they laid, how much they weigh, if they’re healthy. Same with these basketball players, I guess. They keep track of all these numbers to see how good they’re doin’. And folks like to argue about who’s better, just like they argue about whose chickens are fatter. It’s just human nature, I reckon.
Heard some folks talkin’, sayin’ mean things about Angel. Sayin’ she wasn’t smart, sayin’ she wasn’t gonna play no more. But she shut ’em all down, said it wasn’t true. Good for her, I say. Don’t let them gossips get you down. Just like when them city folks came around and said my chickens were too skinny. I told ’em, “These are good, healthy chickens, raised right!” You gotta stand up for yourself, that’s what I always say.
So, this Angel Reese girl, she seems like a good player to me. Strong, gets them rebounds, helps her team. And she don’t let folks push her around. That’s what matters, ain’t it? All them numbers and stats, they’re just numbers. What really matters is if you work hard and do your best. That’s what my pappy always told me, and it’s true for basketball players and chicken farmers alike.
They had a whole season, this WNBA thing. It’s over now, I heard. Folks are probably already lookin’ forward to next year. Wonder what kind of stats Angel will have then? Maybe she’ll score even more points, get even more rebounds. Or maybe she’ll learn a new trick or two. It’ll be interesting to see, that’s for sure. But for now, I reckon she’s earned a good rest. Just like me after a long day of workin’ on the farm.
