Man, I gotta tell you about this rabbit hole I went down the other day. I’ve always been a huge New York Giants fan, right? But lately, I’ve been feeling nostalgic, thinking about the good old days. So, I decided to dig into the 2017 Giants roster. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because that season was, well, let’s just say it wasn’t our best.

First, I started with a simple search. Just typed in “2017 New York Giants roster” and, boom, a ton of stuff popped up. Lots of sports sites, some official, some not so much. I clicked on a few, and they all had pretty much the same info. You know, players’ names, numbers, positions, all that basic stuff.
Then I started seeing these lists of all-time greats. Eli Manning was at the top for career passing yards, no surprise there. 57,023 yards! Phil Simms was second. The Giants have had some legendary players over the years, it’s pretty cool to see it all laid out like that.
But I wanted to focus on 2017. So, I dug deeper. I found out their record that year was 3-13. Ouch. They finished 4th in the NFC East and 16th in the whole NFC. Not exactly a banner year. They did have Ben McAdoo as their coach, but his record was 2-10 that year. I remember thinking at the time that we were just cursed. I checked out the injury reports from back then, trying to piece together what went wrong. And I saw those rumors about the team possibly rebuilding and wondered if there was any truth to them back then.
- Quarterbacks: Eli Manning, Geno Smith, Davis Webb.
- Running Backs: Orleans Darkwa, Paul Perkins, Wayne Gallman.
- Wide Receivers: Sterling Shepard, Odell Beckham Jr., Roger Lewis.
- Tight Ends: Evan Engram, Rhett Ellison, Jerell Adams.
- Defense: This is where it gets really interesting. You had guys like Jason Pierre-Paul, Olivier Vernon, Damon Harrison. On paper, it looked solid, but something just didn’t click that year.
Looking back, it’s kind of wild to think about how much has changed since then. The team is totally different now. New coach, new players, new everything. But still, it was fun to take that trip down memory lane, even if it was a bit painful. It reminded me of how much I love this team, through thick and thin. I guess that’s what being a true fan is all about, right?
Anyway, that’s my little story about my deep dive into the 2017 Giants roster. Maybe it wasn’t the most productive use of my time, but hey, it was fun. And who knows, maybe I’ll do it again sometime. There’s always another season to explore, another roster to dissect. The history of this team is just so rich, you could spend days getting lost in it. And for a die-hard fan like me, that’s not a bad way to spend some time.
